about

This paramount and beautiful piece of art was compiled and prepared on ArT-TeK label from tracks written by Alexandroid musicians between 1996 and 2001 at locations in Riga, Moscow, and St.-Petersbourg. Although the name Alexandroid sounds very suitable for a Russian experimental electronic band, the two guys Alex and Android grew up and see themselves beyond any particular geographical prescription.

They were more likely to be two travelers that by chance ended up in Russia.Born in Riga they spent a lot of their youth traveling around Europe, one visiting England, another exploring Germany. Later they stayed in Sweden and then moved to St.Petersbourg after going back to Riga or Moscow from time to time, sometimes working separately or together in a place called Babit on the outskirts of Riga. This is why perhaps they do not accept any materialistic boundaries, and geographical borders are the first to dismiss. There is not anything localized or secondary in their music. This is not a “typical Moscow electronica” or just another “St.Petersbourg” techno band. Their music is a cocktail of everything they have heard around them.

Synoptic consists of 16 tracks each carrying its own mood, a story, and there is a history related to the writing of every track. The music on the album creates an effect of deja vu bringing some pictures from your long past memory and freezing them in time. A strange sensation as if you are remembering your previous lives. This could be someone’s story or biography, or simply a collection of emotions dedicated to one person. Some tracks create a feeling that the time is slowing down and stops.
The Intro track has been recorded in Riga after three sleepless nights when a simple musical composition turned into a slogan pronounced by Alex “never give up!”. SSSesions was recorded live in Victor Vilckes’ studio, where just two persons created an impression of a choir singing in a huge Buddhist temple. Mumimix is a remix on a song “No Cheat” by Mummytroll, and it manifests the most characteristic sound of the band: warm light and transparent atmospheric noises mixed with samples of unusual origins (such as recordings of Japanese radio), and accomplished by rhythmical vocal samples. Of course the rhythm is a special feature of many Alexandroid tracks. Just take a look at Lax or Cats.

We love this great album, and happy finally to share it here.
