about

We are proud to release the fantastic album of Mewark - "Organisation is", which became an important event in the post-Soviet Union experimental music scene.

Mewark (Alexander Petrunin, 08.12.1980-30.12.2012) was an artist of the new electronic music generation of Russia. This generation no longer cared about history. With all the respect to those putting out their releases at the beginning of the 1990s, it seems that Alexander was more interested in playing with computer-generated and state of the art music technologies. Nonetheless, cutting–edge tech is not the only feature of Mewark. His heavy and rich sound is largely influenced by the cyberpunk aesthetics of William Gibson, James Ballard, and David Cronenberg. Mewark existed in the megapolis of personal space sovereignty, high–speed communication, and wordless visual messaging.

The name Mewark was appeared as a result of synesthesia of the name of one of Gibson’s cities Newark and contains a connection to Moscow city (hence the name ‘M’ewark). The Mewark's city has a lot of space and coldness that the new album captures so precisely. To achieve this effect Alex designed and created his own software-based instruments, many of which became part of the now-famous music Native Instruments Reaktor's library.

Alex was one of those composers who do not just make collages of library samples and ‘assembling’ tracks. He did everything himself from scratch achieving his individual sound and a style that is hard to define. He manages to capture emotions and expose them in a new, non–canonical way. This kind of music, described by Coil as the music of ‘deep listening’, operates with images of year 3075: Tokyo neon lights reflected in pools, Chapman brothers, shades on the road of your night journey, Steven Hawking, black branches of April, underground, German sound, Blade Runner, minimalism, USB, concentrate.

We love this album and all of the profit coming to us will be used to release LP vinyl of this album
